Advent Devotion - week 1
HOPE Carol: “O Little Town of Bethlehem”
Thought: Did you notice the words of the carol; “the hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight”? When Jesus was born as a baby in Bethlehem, we must remember that He already had a specific mission, “The Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19: 10).
This is a good thing because, as Ephesians 2:12 says, “At that time you were without Christ, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.” But Jesus is Immanuel – God WITH us – and that is the reason we have to hope. We are not abandoned; we are not alone. As David said in Psalm 62:5, “Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him.”
