Title: The Sufficiency of Scripture
Purpose: To identify if the Bible is enough for knowing what God wants us to think or do

I. Definition - Scripture contains all the words of God that He intended for His people to have at each stage of redemptive history, and that it now contains all the words of God we need for salvation, for trusting Him perfectly, and for obeying Him perfectly.
II. Answers to all of our questions
A. Enables us to focus on the Bible alone to know we have to do
B. We do not need an official church position also - Catholics
C. We do not need early Christian writings - liberal Protestants
D. We do not need supplemental revelation - Mormon, Islam, Christian Science
III. Was sufficient at each stage
A. God may add to His words, we may not
B. Biblical revelation is progressive
C. Deuteronomy 29:29 - “God has secrets that we are NOT accountable for. But we are accountable for what He has revealed to us.”
D. John 20:30-31- “many more things done than recorded”
IV. Practical applications
A. The Bible is sufficient when we try to decide what God wants us to think or do
B. Add nothing to nor make anything equal to or more important than Bible
C. We are not required to believe anything not found in scripture
D. No modern revelations from God are to be placed on level with authority of Bible
E. Nothing is sin that is not explicitly forbidden or implied in scripture
F. Nothing is required of us by God that is not commanded in scripture either explicitly or by implication
G. Teaching should be based on scripture and we should be content with that
